Information For Families

Welcome to Glynn A Green Public School

Thank you for visiting our school web site. The school office is open 8:00 AM- 4:00 PM.

Yard supervision begins at 8:55. Please do not send your child early as they should not be on the yard prior to this time. On rainy days, students are not permitted into the school until 8:55 as well. The playground in closed in the mornings and after school as there is no supervision.

Inclement Weather Message for Families:

There are times in Niagara when weather conditions are so poor that we must cancel student transportation, and/or close schools to preserve the safety of students and staff.

The decision to cancel transportation and/or close schools is not taken lightly; a variety of factors are considered when making this choice. To learn more about how these decisions are made, please go to https://www.dsbn.org/inclementweather. Every effort will be made to share school closure information before 6:00 am on the day of the school closure. You will find it on all school websites, DSBN social media, and local media share the news widely as well.

Transportation Cancellations:

Information about transportation delays and cancellations are posted to https://portal.nsts.ca/Cancellations.aspx. When transportation is cancelled, every effort is made to communicate the decision by 6:00 am on the day of the cancellation. There are times when transportation is cancelled, but schools remain open. If, on those days you feel it is best for your child to stay home, please report your child’s absence https://dsbn.org/safearrival/ so we can make sure they are safe at home.

Parking:

With many young students, pick up and drop off times can get very chaotic! Please remember to park only in marked parking spaces. Do not block the entrance and exit to the parking lot, and do not stop in the middle of the parking lot to allow students in or out of the vehicle. Also, please do not leave your engines running while waiting, we want to keep the air as clean as possible for everyone.

Glynn A Green Q.C., 1917–1976

“Glynn Albert Green’s first love was his family, a love which expanded to encompass the community around him. After spending his childhood near O'Reilly's Bridge, Glynn married Jean Godwin and served as a Captain in the Canadian Armed Forces. He attended Queen’s University for chemistry and Osgoode Hall for law. Glynn was a long time resident of Fonthill and a lawyer in Welland. He was a volunteer firefighter for many years, as well as a Chairman of the Niagara District School Board. He always believed that youth should receive the best education possible, which extended to a devotion to the importance of extracurricular sports. Glynn had a passion for hockey, and his “Dawn Patrol” would shuttle neighbourhood children to the Welland Arena in the small hours of the morning so that they too could find their love for Canada’s game. In addition, Glynn also hosted hockey teams from Sweden, representing the community’s hospitality with pride. He was awarded the title of “Mr. Little NHL” and was made an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Little NHL. When he passed away in 1976, he left behind his wife Jean, his nine children, and a legacy of community service and dedication to education.”
